Benefits of Bible Quizzes

When it comes to retaining what you’re learning, you may have practiced a few of these study tips growing up:

  • Flashcards
  • Note-taking
  • Saying answers out loud
  • Color coding
  • Matching
  • Pictures for words
  • Mnemonic devices
  • Bullet points of complex concepts
  • Multiple choice
  • True and False
  • Fill in the blank
  • Mixing up the order
  • Repetitive writing

If you want to grow spiritually, you already recognize the importance of prayer and reading your Bible. But these things should be more than a checklist if we want to be able to retain what we’re learning. Even Jesus quoted scripture more than 100 times! There are many places in the Bible that explain what to do with what we’re reading. For example:

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

1 Peter 3:15-16

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Ephesians 6:13,17

The Bible shows us that we can use its words to resist temptation (Luke 4), as our moral compass (2 Timothy 3), as a way to inspire hope in others (1 Peter 3), and as a weapon against the devil’s schemes (Ephesians 6).

However, it doesn’t have to be a chore to memorize scripture or retain what you’re learning. There are endless ways to grow in the knowledge of what the Bible teaches! I’ve created Bible timelines so that you can understand how complex concepts fit together in a simplified way and scripture memorization activities for kids.

You can also find lots of ways to test your knowledge and what you’re learning through Bible quiz books and trivia apps. Here are a few of my favorites:

Bible Quiz Books

Ready to test what you know? Then have a family game night or quiz yourself with these three Bible trivia books.

1. 1,000 Trivia Facts About the Bible

This resource is arranged by books of the Bible and provides a few facts at the start of each section to get some background before you start! If you’re a Type A personality like me, then you’ll love this one that keeps the Bible books in order!

2. Bible Trivia Quiz

These activities are great to use as small group ice breakers, personal Bible study games, family travel games, or fun individual study. Contains multiple-choice questions, matching, fill-in-the-blanks, word searches, scrambles, and crossword puzzles. If you like to mix up study styles, then you’ll love this one!

3. Big Fun Bible Puzzle Book

This puzzle book by Thomas Nelson Publishers helps you practice your Bible trivia through word searches, mazes, crosswords, and more! Great for a more visual approach rather than a Q & A session.

Bible Quiz Apps

On the go? Then download these three free Bible quiz apps to test your knowledge (or your kids’) away from home!

1. Bible Trivia Quiz App

This Bible app style is as simple as it gets with random Bible questions and multiple choice options. Especially easy for young learners and those just getting started. If you’re a beginner, then this one is for you!

2. Daily Bible Trivia Quiz App

This Bible quiz app is obviously set up in the style of the “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” game show. You can even phone a friend (a cartoon Jesus or the Pope–LOL) or have choices eliminated just like in the show. Each question references a different book of the Bible. If you want some friendly competition, then this app’s for you!

3. Bible Trivia App

This app is more challenging than the other two in that you have to be able to supply the missing one-word answer. There are letter choices and the length of the word is provided, but children will need to be able to recall answers and spell. If you want more of a challenge, then this one is great for you!
