THE BOOK OF COLOSSIANS

During Paul’s house arrest years in Rome, he writes 4 letters to check in with and encourage churches. One of these letters are to the Colossian church, in the region of Colossae.

It is said that Paul never actually visited this region, but his friend Philemon had started a church in his home and so Paul was mentoring and encouraging them from far away.

The book of Colossians is only four chapters long and is mainly written to explain that Christ is supreme over all and came to free us from sin and death. From there, Paul goes onto guide the church on a few rules for holy living as new Christians. Here are a few of my favorite verses from chapter three:

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” 3:1-2

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." 3:12-14

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." 3:23-24
