Here are 5 ways to take some time to intentionally teach your children the story of the birth of Jesus in the Bible.

Remembering the Reason for the Season

I asked my six-year-old daughter why we celebrated Christmas and she replied, “It’s Santa’s birthday?”.

MOM FAIL.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the stress of the holidays that we stick the life lessons low on our priorities list. But this little reminder was just what I needed to get our week back on track.

Here are 5 ways to teach your children about the birth of Jesus in the Bible.

5 Ways to Teach the Story of the Birth of Jesus in the Bible

1. Attend a Christmas Play

Many places will reenact the story of the birth of Christ. Look into your local community’s events in order to find a play near you!

2. Set Out a Nativity Scene for Kids to Play With

Little minds learn best with hands-on activities, so play sets are a great way to teach the story of the birth of Jesus to your child.

3. Do a Service Project Together

Have your kids help you pick out a present to donate to Toys for Tots or donate food to a local shelter. Don’t forget another simple way to help is to call those who are alone for the holidays and wish them a Merry Christmas! Remind your kids why we help others, and then point your actions back to the story of Jesus.

4. Listen to Christmas Hymns

I love Christmas music, but I think that my kids have memorized Santa Claus is Coming to Town and have no idea what the words are to Silent Night. Be intentional about the reason for the season by having times when your kids are listening to (or singing along with!) a few Christmas hymns.

5. Countdown to Christmas with Bible Stories to Jesus’ Birth

When my kids were young, we would use the Beginner’s Bible to read all the stories from creation to Jesus’ birth as a countdown for Christmastime, and then read the stories of his ministry to lead up to the Easter season. So now I’ve created a printable countdown activity, and more Bible-based activities for families to celebrate the true reason for the season in my Christmas Printables for Kids Pack here:
