The Book of Mark in the Bible

Let’s recap–There are four gospel accounts of Jesus’ life on earth:

  • Matthew = written by an apostle, directed to the Jewish people
  • Mark = written by a friend of the apostle Peter, directed to the Romans
  • Luke = written by a friend of Mark and Paul, directed to the Gentiles (non-Jews)
  • John = written by an apostle, directed to everyone

In my post about Matthew, we learned that Matthew was an apostle to Jesus during his ministry. He witnessed first-hand what was happening and recorded it. The book of Mark, however, is from a secondary source. It is widely speculated that Mark got his information from Peter (another apostle of Jesus) whom he was friends with after Jesus’ time.

The gospel of Mark is also the shortest of the four, and many people consider it the “cliff-notes” version of the Gospel.

Mark mainly focuses on Jesus’ ministry and skips the genealogy and birth of Jesus. The book opens with the baptism of Jesus and ends with a short chapter on the resurrection. Mark gets to the facts and skips the intricate details (like we’ll see in Luke), and the philosophical narrative (like we’ll see in John).

Printables for the Bible Book of Mark

While a lot of the stories are the same as the gospel of Matthew, I didn’t want my printable for the book of Mark in the Bible to be the same information repeated. In this printable I expand on the notes from Matthew and give you:

  • The timeline of Jesus’ final week and days
  • A sequence of events that occurred in the transition from the Old to the New Testament
  • An explanation of the 3 groups of Jewish Leaders
  • Some facts about who Mark is
  • The Lord’s Supper elements
  • Map of the places Jesus visited during his life on earth
