Celebrate Thanksgiving by teaching gratitude to your children by using these Bible verse activities about thankfulness.

Teaching Gratitude to Your Kids

Thanksgiving is often overlooked as it squeezes in between candy-filled Halloween and the presents of Christmastime.

A few years ago I became more intentional in the way I approached November. I made a habit of pointing out to my children that it’s a month of practicing gratitude, a skill that can benefit you for a lifetime.

We usually write down a list of things to be thankful for. However, this year I wanted to take the focus off of material things that usually crowd our list. I pointed our kids to gratitude practices in the Bible by creating my own gratitude activities using scriptures on being thankful.

Not only is this a great way for us to practice reading our Bibles each day, but it helps train my kids on how to find Bible verses on their own.

Cultivating a Season of Thanksgiving Using Verses About Thankfulness

Starting in October, I try to create a season (not just a day) of Thanksgiving. I created a gratitude tree activity as well as thank you cards you can send out to friends and family to let them know you’re thankful for them. In addition, we use a gratitude calendar for November to write down one thing we’re thankful for!

I’m so excited to share these with you and hope that you are inspired to start these new traditions of teaching gratitude with your family this fall!
