A Big List of Winter Books and Movies for January

MY LIST OF BOOKS AND MOVIES ABOUT SNOW

One of my favorite things about pulling out our monthly tubs is finding a stack of themed books to read to the kids. As a former teacher, I came home with boxes of books for different units I taught. Storing them in my kids’ rooms ended in disaster, as they pulled them from the shelves and I was left cleaning up a hundred picture books.

So in order for us to enjoy these to the fullest, I sorted them into groups and store them in our monthly tubs. Bugs for May, school for August and snow for January.

The single best way for your child to be ready for kindergarten is to read to them. They want to read the same book over and over? Even better! Repetition is how they learn! Read to your kids, have them read to you (pretending by using clues from the pictures is another great skill!), and ask questions about the story as you go.

SNOWY MOVIES

This year, I’m adding themed movies to our tubs too! Make sure to check out the list below and plan a family movie night this week!

MAKE IT EVEN MORE FUN!

  • Have each kiddo grab a blanket and make a picnic of books about snow in the living room! Tell the kids that they have to stay on their blanket and read their own books while you get some reading done too. Add a fire and some classical music for an even cozier experience.
  • No snow where you live? Eat ice cream or make snow cones while you watch a snowy movie.
  • Make snowman soup by adding three big marshmallows to your hot chocolate.

  1. Hi Amy,
These are terrific selections for winter books for kids! I also have a section in my blog dedicated to kids Pre-K – 5th grade. I found you in the Create with Joy Linky party. I will share this.
    Best,
    Christina
