Whether you need a Christmas storybook that holds up to the destruction of little hands or need ideas to challenge your older elementary kiddos, this list is your new go-to!

BABY & TODDLER BOOKS

These board books are great because you can’t get a paper cut and the pages won’t tear. The exception is if the book has flaps. I hate to leave these out though because those were some of my kids’ favorites! Check out these interactive read alongs. Lots of predictable text, repetition, letter and number skills! PRESCHOOL BOOKS

These picture books are a little longer, and focus on story. Use these to ask your kids questions about what they think will happen next. Focus on a letter as you read and help them find it on the pages. If they recognize a word (like mom), write it down so they see it often. Add to your list!

ELEMENTARY BOOKS

These books require a higher skill level, either to know how to search and find or have more detailed storylines. Some are also great to pair with a teaching lesson to compare and contrast the book and movie!

A FEW OTHER GOODIES…

I always want to make sure the kids have something interactive to talk about the story of Jesus’ birth, so in addition to books, here are a few fun play items for Christmas break.

BEFORE YOU GO…

For all things Christmas check out my previous posts: Christmas Movie Nights + Treats, My Christmas Home Video Tour, Red and White Vintage Christmas, and Custom Christmas Present Ideas.

So pile on the couch together and read out loud, or have everyone spread out on their own blanket and take turns “reading” to themselves with their own pile to look through. We like to do both especially with a fire going and Charlie Brown’s Christmas soundtrack playing in the background.

Here’s to a very Merry Christmas!

  1. I used to love sitting down with my kids for a quiet moment in all the Christmas prep madness to read a good Christmas book. You’ve found a lovely selection here.
